Jaguars Take Both Ends of Lions' Road Doubleheader

AUGUSTA, GA – The Emmanuel softball team traveled to Augusta, Georgia on Wednesday to face the Augusta University Jaguars. The host Jaguars defeated the Lions on both ends of the double header, moving Emmanuel's record to 14-6 on the season.
 
Game 1:
The Lions lost the lead late in a 4-2 defeat in the opening matchup. The game was tied at two with Augusta batting in the bottom of the sixth when Olivia Biles singled on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs.
 
Mary Tillman was in the circle for Augusta. The hurler allowed six hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out five and walking zero.
 
Madison Edwards was on the rubber for the Lions. The righty went six innings, allowing four runs on eight hits and striking out nine.
 
The Lions tallied six hits on the day. Glory Thompson and Chloe Nadler each collected two hits to lead the way. The Lions were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Lily Shelton made the most plays with ten.
 
Augusta University racked up eight hits. 
 
Game 2:
The Lions fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 12-2 loss to Augusta in the second game of the afternoon. Augusta took the lead on an error in the first inning.
 
The Lions struggled to contain the high-powered offense of the Jaguars, giving up 12 runs.
 
Augusta University scored 11 of their runs in the second inning. 
 
Maggie McBrayer got the start for Augusta. McBrayer lasted five innings, allowing five hits and two runs while striking out one.
 
Dani Fairey started the game for the Lions. She allowed five hits and six runs over one and one-third innings, striking out one and walking zero. Kalieigh Fowler, Sydney Blackmon, and Kaitlyn Pickens each contributed in relief for the Lions.
 
Next up, Emmanuel softball will face Catawba for an out-of-league matchup on Saturday, March 5. The doubleheader kicks off at 3:00pm.
