Lions Devour Indians, 8-1 and 9-3 in Doubleheader

SALISBURY, NC – The Emmanuel softball team played a doubleheader against the Catawba Indians on Saturday. The Lions dominated the afternoon, winning comfortably in both games thanks to fantastic hitting. The victories move Emmanuel's record to 16-7 on the year.
 
Game 1:
The Lions had all cylinders firing on offense in the opener, winning big over Catawba 8-1.
 
In the first inning, the Lions got their offense started. Chloe Nadler singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.
 
The Lions put up four runs in the second inning. Emmanuel's offense in the inning came from a home run by Mackensie Hogan and a fielder's choice by Glory Thompson.

Madison Edwards was credited with the victory on the mound for the Lions. The righty went seven innings, allowing one run on one hit and striking out six.
 
The Lions hit a home run when Hogan had a four bagger in the second inning. Hogan also led the Lions with two hits in three at bats.
 
Game 2:
The Lions had no trouble on offense in game two, winning big once again, 9-3.
 
Catawba got on the board in the first inning. Brittany Ireland drove in two when she homered.
 
However, the Lions pulled away for good with three runs in the third inning. Glory Thompson singled on a 2-1 count, scoring two of the runs.
 
The Lions tallied three runs in the seventh inning. The offensive onslaught was led by Chloe Nadler and Gabby Buffington, who each had RBIs in the inning.
 
Kaitlyn Pickens got the win for the Lions. The righthander lasted seven innings, allowing six hits and three runs while striking out three.
 
The Lions racked up nine hits. Nadler and Ellee Varner each collected multiple hits. Emmanuel was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Buffington had the most chances in the field with eight.
 
Next up, Emmanuel softball will face Georgia Southwestern on Saturday, March 12. The first pitch of the doubleheader is set for 1:00pm.
