Lions Fall in Doubleheader After Late Runs by Hurricanes

AMERICUS, GA – The Emmanuel Softball team fell to Georgia Southwestern in both legs of their doubleheader on Saturday. This moves Emmanuel's record to 16-9 on the season.
 
Game 1:
It came down to the last play, but Emmanuel was on the wrong end of a 9-8 defeat to Georgia Southwestern on Saturday in the first game of the afternoon. The game was tied at eight with Georgia Southwestern batting in the bottom of the eighth when Isabell Marcotte singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.
 
The Lions lost despite out-hitting Georgia Southwestern nine to eight.
 
The Lions put up six runs in the fourth inning. Glory Thompson, Lexi Jordan, Jaryn Gibson, Chloe Nadler, and Kya Santiago each had RBIs in the frame.
 
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Georgia Southwestern tied things up at eight when Jacie Johns singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run.
 
Trinity Whitfield was in the circle for Georgia Southwestern. The hurler lasted three innings, allowing five hits and four runs.
 
Dani Fairey toed the rubber for the Lions. The lefthander went two innings, allowing two runs on zero hits, striking out three and walking one. Kaitlyn Pickens and Sydney Blackmon entered the game from the bullpen, throwing three innings and two and a third innings respectively.
 
The Lions hit one home run on the day. Gibson had a dinger in the third inning.
 
The Lions totaled nine hits in the game. Cheney and Jordan each managed two hits to lead the way.
 
Game 2:
Saturday's second game against Georgia Southwestern was another heartbreaker, as the Lions lost the lead late in a 5-3 defeat. The game was tied at three with Georgia Southwestern batting in the bottom of the sixth when Zoe Willis homered on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs.
 
Regan Lee led things off in the circle for Georgia Southwestern . The fireballer went three and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs on four hits.
 
Madison Edwards was in the circle for the Lions. The pitcher allowed seven hits and five runs over six innings, striking out two.
 
The Lions racked up seven hits on the day. Santiago and Jordan each had two hits to lead the Lions.
Georgia Southwestern tallied seven hits in the game. Willis and Kimmy Singer each racked up multiple hits for Georgia Southwestern.
 
Next up, Emmanuel softball will host Anderson University for a doubleheader beginning at 1:00pm on Tuesday, March 15.
