Softball Splits Weekday Doubleheader with Trojans

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA – The softball team hosted Anderson University for a weekday doubleheader on Tuesday. The Lions split the series, winning the first with a walkoff before falling in the second. This makes Emmanuel's record 17-10 on the year,
 
Game one:

The Lions took Tuesday's first game in dramatic fashion, with a 2-1 walk-off victory. The game was tied at one with the Lions batting in the bottom of the ninth when Glory Thompson singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.
 
The pitching was strong on both sides. Kaitlyn Pickens struck out five, while Laken Maxwell sat down 11.
 
Anderson University opened up scoring in the first inning, when Maddie Carpenter hit a solo homer.
 
In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Lions tied things up at one when Brighton Harder singled.
 
Pickens toed the rubber for the Lions. She lasted all nine innings, allowing four hits and one run while striking out five.
 
Maxwell was on the rubber for Anderson University. The hurler lasted eight and a third innings, allowing four hits and one run while striking out 11.
 
Game two:
The Trojans bounced back in the closer, defeating the Lions 6-2. 
 
Harlie Duncan led things off in the circle for Anderson University. The ace lasted seven innings, allowing four hits and two runs while striking out seven.
 
Madison Edwards was on the rubber for the Lions. The righty allowed five hits and four runs over two and a third innings, striking out one. Sydney Blackmon and Kaleigh Fowler entered the game from the bullpen, throwing four innings and two-thirds of an inning respectively.
 
The Lions socked one home run on the day. Chloe Nadler went deep in the sixth inning.
 
Ellee Varner, Nadler, Gabby Buffington, and Kya Santiago each collected one hit. The Lions didn't commit a single error in the field. Buffington had six chances in the field, the most on the team.
 
Anderson University tallied ten hits in the game. 
 
Next up, Emmanuel softball will begin conference play against Chowan University with a doubleheader beginning at 1:00pm on Friday, March 18.
