Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Lions Record Emphatic Win Over Fleet

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA - The women's basketball team hosted the Erskine College Flying Fleet on Thursday night. The Lions recorded a dominate win, 76-46, moving their record to 6-12 overall and 6-9 in league play.

The Lions scored the first basket of the game and never looked back, controlling the lead for the next 40 minutes. The first quarter was slow on offense for the Lions, but dominate defense allowed them to gain an eight point lead, 14-6. Emmanuel stepped it up on offense in the second quarter while continuing their dominate defense. This allowed them to build a 21 point lead heading into halftime, 35-14.

The third quarter was a splash fest from beyond the arc for the Lions, with four different players knocking down threes. Senior Allison Smith led the way, cashing three in a row en route to an 11 point showing for the Banks County native. Sophomore Sydney Wyatt continued what was already an incredible performance, making her fifth three pointer of the night. Senior Lexie Sengkhammee added another three pointer before junior Jeanetta Elder knocked down her own as the Lions went on to put up 31 points in the third quarter alone. This lead to a 35 point lead after 30 minutes, 66-31.

Several freshmen got opportunities on the court in the fourth quarter, but it was Makenzie Caldwell who stole the show. She scored six straight points for the Lions as they continued to control the game. Eventually Emmanuel won by 30 points, 76-46.

Sydney Wyatt led the way for the Lions, finishing with a career-best 23 points that included a 5 of 7 effort from three and perfect 6 for 6 from the charity stripe. Jeanetta Elder followed with a double double, recording 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Next up, women's basketball will face Lees-McRae College on the road this Tuesday, February 8 at 5:00pm.
