Lions Fall To Buzzer-Beater from Bobcats, 50-52

BANNER ELK, NC - The Emmanuel College Women's Basketball Team traveled to Banner Elk, NC, to face off against conference opponent Lees-McCrae College. The Lions lost on a last second shot by Lees-McCrae, moving their record to 6-13 (6-10 CC).  
 
Emmanuel started the game strong, leading by 14 points (18-4) with 9:47 left in the 2nd quarter. However, Lees-McCrae cut the lead to 10 points (25-15) at the end of the first half. 
 
Sydney Wyatt led the Lions in scoring with 16 points, shooting 3-9 from the field and 9-9 from the free throw line. Jeanetta Elder also scored 14 points, shooting 6-15 from the field and 2-4 from the free throw line. Jazmin Allen led the Lions in rebounding and assists with 9 rebounds and 4 assists. She also recorded 10 points. 
 
As a team, the Lions shot 30.4% (14-46) from the field. They were boosted by 22 points coming in the paint. 9 of their points were scored off turnovers. They went near perfect from the free throw line, shooting 80% (20-25). Despite these successes, Emmanuel struggled from behind the 3-point line, shooting 22.2% (2-9). 
 
Despite a strong night from the stat line, Emmanuel fell just short. They started the 2nd half strong and held a 7 (34-27) point lead with 1:20 left in the 3rd quarter. However, Lees-McCrae put up 5 quick points to shorten the Lions lead to 5 (37-32) at the end of the 3rd quarter.  Lees-McCrae made quick work to put the lead within 1 point (40-39) with 8:11 remaining in the 4th quarter. After a number of lead changes in the remaining 8 minutes, the teams found themselves tied 50-50 with 0:25 seconds left. After a timeout by Lees-McCrae, Malikah Meyers hit a jumper with 2 seconds left, winning the game 52-50. 
 
The Lions will again play conference opponent Lees-McCrae College on February 11 (Friday) at 5:00 PM in Franklin Springs, GA.
