Lions Drop Doubleheader to Bears

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA – The Emmanuel baseball squad fell to the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears in both games of Sunday's double-header, moving the Lions to 1-3 on the year. 
 
In game one, Lenoir-Rhyne got on the board in the first inning. Scott Meitzler singled on a 2-1 count, scoring two runs.
 
Joshua Lanham was credited with the victory for Lenoir-Rhyne. The pitcher allowed five hits and two runs over six innings, striking out nine and walking zero. Ben Friebel threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. Friebel recorded the last three outs to earn the save for Lenoir-Rhyne.
Jake Denham took the loss for Emmanuel. The lefthander lasted four and a third innings, allowing eight hits and four runs while striking out three and walking zero.
 
Emmanuel totaled six hits in the game. Judd Roberts, Khalib Bayona, and Cody Minnis each managed multiple hits for Emmanuel. Minnis, Bayona, and Roberts all had two hits to lead Emmanuel.
Lenoir-Rhyne tallied ten hits on the day. Drew Yniesta and Bryce Stober all collected multiple hits as the Bears won the game, 4-2. 
 
The second game was tied 2-2 until Lenoir-Rhyne scored three runs in the sixth inning. Lenoir-Rhyne offense in the inning was led by Brett Eurey, Cole Laskowski, and Drew Yniesta, all knocking in runs.
 
Austin Edwards earned the victory on the mound for Lenoir-Rhyne. The bulldog lasted five innings, allowing five hits and two runs while striking out four. Scott Meitzler, Tanner Moyers, and Michael Allen all put in work in relief out of the bullpen, steering their team towards the victory. Meitzler recorded the last six outs to earn the save for Lenoir-Rhyne.
 
Colby Feilds took the loss for Emmanuel. The righty lasted five and a third innings, allowing 12 hits and five runs while striking out eight and walking zero.
 
Emmanuel racked up eight hits. Luke Patty and Brody Campbell all managed multiple hits for Emmanuel. Patty went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead the Lions. Emmanuel didn't commit a single error in the field. Zachary Bergstrom had the most chances in the field with eight.
Lenoir-Rhyne saw the ball well today, racking up 13 hits in the game. David Bell, Meitzler, Anthony Porrino, Yniesta, and Nick Clarno all collected multiple hits for Lenoir-Rhyne.
 
Next up, baseball with conclude their four-game series against Lenoir-Rhyne on Monday at 12:00PM.
