Lions Dominate in Doubleheader Against Warriors

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA – The Emmanuel baseball team hosted Southern Wesleyan for a conference matchup on Sunday afternoon. The Lions overcame the Warriors in both ends of the doubleheader, moving our record to 10-14 overall and 3-8 in league play.
 
 
Game one:
Four hits from Cody Minnis paved the way to victory for Emmanuel over Southern Wesleyan 12-3 in the opener. Minnis singled in the first, singled in the third, singled in the fourth, and doubled in the eighth.
 
Emmanuel opened up scoring in the first inning, when Beau Shaw induced Judd Roberts to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored.
 
Emmanuel pulled away for good with four runs in the third inning. In the third Minnis singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs, Kyle Lacross singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run, and Dobbs Bowden singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run.
 
After Southern Wesleyan scored one run in the top of the sixth, Emmanuel answered with one of their own. Southern Wesleyan scored when Will Pitts hit a solo homer.
 
Jake Denham was credited with the victory for Emmanuel. Denham surrendered three runs on six hits over six innings, striking out six. Braden Henle threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen. Henle recorded the last nine outs to earn the save for Emmanuel.
 
Shaw took the loss for Southern Wesleyan. The pitcher surrendered eight runs on ten hits over five innings, striking out two.
 
Emmanuel smacked one home run on the day. Brody Campbell went for the long ball in the fifth inning.
 
Emmanuel collected 17 hits on the day. Minnis, Lacross, Luke Patty, Guy Anderberg, and Bowden each racked up multiple hits for Emmanuel. Minnis went 4-for-5 at the plate to lead Emmanuel in hits.
 
Southern Wesleyan totaled seven hits. Pitts and DJ Ludwick each managed multiple hits.
 
 
Game two:
Emmanuel won the second game of the series 6-2.
 
Emmanuel opened up scoring in the first inning, when Brody Campbell's sac fly scored one run.
 
Emmanuel scored five runs in the second inning. Guy Anderberg, Kyle Lacross, Luke Patty, and Campbell each had RBIs in the big inning.
Simon Boggie was the winning pitcher for Emmanuel. The righty allowed six hits and two runs over five innings, striking out six. Tyler Mayfeild threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.
 
TJ McEvilly took the loss for Southern Wesleyan. The righthander allowed five hits and six runs over one and two-thirds innings, striking out one.
 
Patty led Emmanuel with three hits in three at bats.
 
Southern Wesleyan tallied seven hits in the game. Jordan Montgomery and Josh Galloway all managed multiple hits for Southern Wesleyan 
 
Emmanuel baseball will finish their three game series with the Warriors on Monday, March 14. First pitch is set for 6:00pm.
