Two Run Ninth Gives Lions Road Victory Over Trojans, 7-6

ANDERSON, SC - The Emmanuel College Baseball team traveled to Anderson, SC, to compete against the Anderson University Trojans. Despite starting down 4-0 after the 1st inning, Emmanuel rallied to win the game 7-6. 
 
Hunter Ferguson started the game for Emmanuel, but was replaced by Ryan Smith in the 1st inning after allowing 3 hits and 4 runs. 
 
In the bottom of the 1st, B. Ownens singled to right center for Anderson, bringing home N. Vella and K. Andress for an early 2-0 lead. Shortly after J. LeGrand singled on a bunt, brining J. Fox home to extend their lead to 3-0. Later in the inning, S. Thomas flied out to centerfield, brining B. Owens home for a 4-0 lead. 
 
In the top of the 3rd with 2 outs, Zachary Bergstrom doubled for Emmanuel, sending both Yeshua Saint and Cody Minnis home to cut the lead to 4-2. Later in the inning, Dustin Frost singled to right center, sending Bergstrom home to cut Emmanuel's deficit to 4-3. 
 
In the top of the 5th, Dustin Frost flied out to centerfield, bringing Cody Minnis home from 3rd base and tying the game 4-4. 
 
In the top of the 7th, Yeshua Saint singled to centerfield and sent Luke Patty home as Emmanuel took their first lead of the day, 5-4. 
 
In the bottom of the 7th, Trey Campbell took over the mound for Smith. Smith finished the game allowing 7 hits and only 1 run. 
 
Anderson responded as B. Owens flied out in the infield, allowing K. Andress to score an unearned run and tie the game 5-5. 
 
In the bottom of the 8th, Clifford Brown took over the mound for Trey Campbell. Campbell allowed 1 hit and 1 run in 1.1 innings. 
 
In the bottom of the 8th, after an error from Emmanuel, S. Thomas scored an unearned run on a wild pitch. Anderson took the lead 6-5 going into the 9th inning. 
 
Despite being down headed into the last inning, the Lions rallied to score two runs and shut out the Trojans in the 9th. Cody Minnis singled to left center, bringing Kyle LaCross home to tie the game 6-6. Shortly after, Yeshua Saint grounded into a double play which allowed Luke Patty to score, taking the lead for Emmanuel 7-6. 
 
Clifford Brown closed the game for Emmanuel, shutting out the Trojans and giving the win to Emmanuel. 
 
With this win, Emmanuel's record improves to 11-15. They will continue their season as they compete against Wingate University this weekend (March 18-20) in a 3-game series at home.
