FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA - The men's volleyball team hosted #6 Mount Olive on Saturday afternoon. The Trojans topped the Lions in three sets, moving Emmanuel's record to 9-9 overall and 3-4 in conference play.
Set one:
The Trojans took over early, quickly opening up a 7-2 advantage. The Lions chipped away at the deficit until they were back within a point, 15-16. However, a strong finish by Mount Olive gave them the set by five, 25-20.
Set two:
The Trojans followed a similar pattern in the second, leading 10-5 early on. A 5-1 run for Emmanuel got them back within a point, 10-11. However, the Trojans soon scored six-straight, giving them a lead the Lions couldn't catch. Mount Olive eventually took the set by nine, 25-16.
Set three:
The Lions got off to a better start in the third. A kill by freshman Gustavo Cavalcanti was followed with an ace from junior Jayden Young, giving the Lions an 8-7 lead. However, a dominant stretch of play from UMO led to them building another large lead, 22-14. The Lions rallied to score four in a row, but it was too little too late as the Trojans went on to win the set, 25-20, and the match, 3-0.
Gustavo Cavalcanti finished with 12 kills, 4 digs, and three aces. Jayden Young recorded 5 kills, 2 digs, a block and an ace.
Next up, men's volleyball will host Lincoln Memorial University on Tuesday, March 22 at 3:00pm.
