Edwards Throws Shutout, Hitters Thrive in 2-0 Day vs Hawks

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA – The Emmanuel softball team hosted Chowan on Sunday afternoon. The Lions dominated offensively and defensively, winning both ends of the doubleheader. This moves Emmanuel's record to 19-12 (2-2 CC). 
 
Game one:
Madison Edwards didn't allow a single run as the Lions defeated Chowan 8-0 in the opener. Edwards allowed just three hits and zero runs over six innings, striking out ten.
 
The Lions totaled 11 hits in the game. Glory Thompson, Gabby Buffington, and Mackensie Hogan each managed two hits to lead the way.  The Lions didn't commit a single error in the field. Lily Shelton had the most chances in the field with 12.
 
Game two:
The Lions stole the lead late in the game in a 12-4 victory over the Hawks in the second matchup. Emmanuel was down 4-2 in the bottom of the fifth inning when Chloe Nadler homered on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring three runs.
 
Nadler led the Lions to victory by driving in four runs while going 3-for-4 at the plate. She drove in runs on a double in the first and a home run in the fifth.
 
In the first inning, Chowan got their offense started when Kaitlin Brunelli homered on a 3-2 count, scoring two runs.
 
In the bottom of the third inning, the Lions tied things up at two when Mackensie Hogan singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run.
 
Kaitlyn Pickens was in the pitcher's circle for the Lions. Pickens lasted four innings, allowing four hits and four runs while striking out two and walking zero.
 
Megan Vincent was in the circle for Chowan. The pitcher went four and a third innings, allowing eight runs on ten hits, striking out five and walking zero. 
 
The Lions smacked two home runs on the day. Kya Santiago went for the long ball in the sixth inning. Nadler had a four bagger in the fifth inning.
 
The Lions totaled 15 hits in the game. Chloe Nadler led Emmanuel with three hits in four at bats. The Lions didn't commit a single error in the field. Hogan had seven chances in the field, the most on the team.
 
Next up, Emmanuel softball will host Colombus State on Wednesday, March 23 at 3:00pm.
