Lions Sweep Braves, Winning 10-2 and 7-6 on the Road

PEMBROKE, NC – The Emmanuel softball team improved to 4-2 in league play and 23-12 overall with a pair of wins over the UNC Pembroke Braves in Friday's doubleheader. After a 10-2 domination in game one, it took a seventh inning score for the Lions to pull out a 7-6 win in game two.
 
Game one:
The Lions put up six runs in the first on their way to a 10-2 victory over UNC Pembroke in Friday's opener. The offensive onslaught came from singles by Mackensie Hogan, Kya Santiago, Lily Shelton, and Glory Thompson, a groundout by Ally Harris, and an error on a ball put in play by Chloe Nadler.
 
Madison Edwards pitched the Lions to victory. Edwards allowed five hits and two runs over five innings, striking out four.
 
Makenna Sibbett took the loss for UNC Pembroke. The hurler lasted four innings, allowing 13 hits and ten runs while striking out two.
 
Emmanuel totaled 14 hits in the game. Lily Shelton and Glory Thompson each collected three hits to lead the way. The Lions didn't commit a single error in the field. Shelton had six chances in the field, the most on the team.
 
Game Two:
The Lions snagged a late lead and defeated the Braves 7-6 in the closer. The game was tied at six with Emmanuel batting in the top of the seventh when Lily Shelton singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.
 
The Lions earned the victory despite allowing the Braves to score four runs in the second inning. UNC Pembroke's big inning was driven by a home run by Lauren Hilbourn and a double by Jordan Adcox.
 
Dani Fairey started the game for the Lions. The southpaw allowed two hits and three runs over one and one-third innings, walking one.
 
Kaitlyn Pickens was the winning pitcher for the Lions. Pickens surrendered three runs on eight hits over five and two-thirds innings, striking out three.
 
Madison Dyson took the loss for UNC Pembroke. The pitcher allowed 12 hits and five runs over four and two-thirds innings, striking out two and walking one.
 
The Lions socked one home run on the day. Kya Santiago had a four bagger in the fifth inning.
 
Emmanuel collected 14 hits on the day. Shelton, Santiago, Chloe Nadler, and Mackensie Hogan each had multiple hits. Shelton led the way with four hits in four at bats.
 
UNC Pembroke racked up ten hits. 
 
Emmanuel Softball will face Mount Olive for a league doubleheader on Saturday, March 26 starting at 12:00pm.
