Lions Lose Road Doubleheader to Trojans

MOUNT OLIVE, NC – The Emmanuel softball team (23-14, 4-4 CC) continued league play against Mount Olive on Saturday. The Trojans' pitching was difficult for the Lions to handle as Mount Olive swept the low-scoring doubleheader.
 
Game one:
In the first inning, Mount Olive got their offense started when Megan Bryant singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run.
 
The Lions recorded 4 hits, but were unable to score as Mount Olive took the victory, 4-0.
 
Hannah Killough earned the win for Mount Olive on the mound. Killough allowed four hits and zero runs over seven innings, striking out one.
 
Madison Edwards took the loss for Emmanuel. Edwards allowed five hits and four runs over four innings, striking out two and walking zero.
 
Mount Olive hit two home runs on the day. Bryant had a four bagger in the third inning. Cana Shrock put one out in the fourth inning.
 
Mount Olive tallied seven hits in the game.
 
Game two:
The Lions led 2-0 after Kya Santiago and Lexi Jordan drove in runs in the second inning. However, the Trojans answered with one each in the second and third innings before scoring twice in the fourth. Neither team recorded another run before the Trojans took the victory, 4-2. 
 
Dani Fairey started the game in the pitcher's circle for the Lions. She allowed nine hits and four runs while striking out two in three and two thirds innings. Kaitlyn Pickens entered the game in relief from the bullpen.
 
Hailey Kessinger was the winning pitcher for the Trojans. 
 
The Lions finished the game with three hits, while the Trojans had 12.
 
Next up, Emmanuel softball will host North Greenville University for a doubleheader on Tuesday, March 29 starting at 3:00pm.
