Lions Split Weekday Doubleheader with Crusaders, 4-7 and 12-4

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA – The Emmanuel Softball team (23-15, 5-5 CC) hosted North Greenville for a weekday doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon. The Lions and Crusaders split the series, 4-7 and 12-4.
 
Game one:
After a couple of scoreless innings, the Crusaders got things started with a three-run homer in the top of the third. They added another in the top of the fifth before Emmanuel got on the board with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth.
 
NGU added another in the top of the sixth before the Lions scored twice in the bottom of the same inning. This put the Lions down one heading into the final inning, 4-5. However, another homerun from the Crusaders in the final inning game them a 7-4 advantage the Lions couldn't catch.
 
Bailey Pace led things off in the circle for NGU. The bulldog lasted six and a third innings, allowing eight hits and four runs while striking out two.
 
Madison Edwards toed the rubber for the Lions. The pitcher went all seven innings, allowing seven runs on nine hits and striking out seven.
 
The Lions totaled eight hits. Lexi Jordan, Kyna Cheney, and Kya Santiago each collected two hits to lead the way.
 
NGU racked up nine hits on the day. 
 
Game two:
Four hits from both Kyna Cheney and Glory Thompson helped lead the Lions past NGU 12-4 on Tuesday's final game. Cheney singled in the first, tripled in the second, doubled in the fourth, and homered in the sixth.
 
An early lead helped propel Emmanuel to victory. The Lions scored on a single by Cheney and a single by Kya Santiago in the first inning.
 
After NGU scored one run in the top of the fifth, the Lions answered with one of their own when Chloe Nadler singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.
 
The Lions notched four runs in the sixth inning. Cheney, Gabby Buffington, Lily Shelton, and Glory Thompson each drove in runs during the inning.
 
Dani Fairey was in the circle for the Lions. The lefty surrendered two runs on four hits over four innings, striking out five.
 
Hailey Wells toed the rubber for NGU. Wells surrendered six runs on 11 hits over two and a third innings, walking one.
The Lions socked one home run on the day. Cheney went yard in the sixth inning.
 
The Lions totaled 20 hits in the game. Thompson and Cheney both had four hits to lead the way.
 
NGU tallied seven hits on the day.
 
Next up, Emmanuel Softball will continue league play as they host Converse University on Friday at 1:00pm for a doubleheader.
