BELMONT, NC - The Emmanuel baseball team concluded their series with Belmont Abbey on Saturday. The Crusaders took both ends of the doubleheader, completing the series sweep and moving Emmanuel's record to 8-14 overall and 1-8 in conference play. 

In game one the Lions struggled offensively, recording only 1 hit and no runs. The Crusaders finished with 9 hits while scoring 8 runs, giving Belmont Abbey the victory, 8-0. 

The Lions improved offensively in the second part of the doubleheader. The Crusaders opened up the scoring in the second and third innings, earning runs off a homer and a sac fly. The Lions scored their first run of the day in the top of the fourth, when Dobbs Bowden ran home on a wild pitch. Another home run and sac fly were recorded by Belmont Abbey in the bottom of the fifth, making the score 4-1. The Lions scored once more in the top of the seventh when Cody Minnis sent Dustin Frost home. However, Emmanuel was not able to complete the comeback as the Crusaders held on to win, 4-2. 

The Lions finished with 5 hits in game two, while the Crusaders had 6. 

Next up, baseball will face Chowan University on Friday, March 11 at 4:00pm.
