Lions Fall to Bulldogs on the Road

WILSON, NC - The Emmanuel College Baseball team (12-21, 4-12 CC) traveled to Wilson, NC, to compete against conference opponent Barton College. After starting down 4-0 in the 1st inning, the deficit was too much to overcome as Emmanuel lost 3-7. 
 
Colby Fields started at pitcher today for the Lions. 
 
In the bottom of the 1st, C. Gonzalez homered to left center, scoring two runs for a 2-0 lead for the Bulldogs. Later in the inning, R. McIssac doubles to right center, sending both C. Warren and D. Scaranda home for a 4-0 lead. 
 
In the bottom of the 3rd, J. Beebe advanced to second base on a throwing error, allowing R. McIssac to score an unearned run. Barton took a 5-0 lead. 
 
In the bottom of the 5th, T. Halvorson singled to center field, sending R. McIssace home for a 6-0 lead. 
 
In the 7th inning, Ben Hudson took over on the mound for Fields. Fields finished allowing 10 hits, 7 runs, and 6 errors. 
 
In the top of 9th, Dustin Frost doubled for Emmanuel, sending Dobbs Bowden home to cut the lead to 1-7. Later in the inning, Jonathan Manibusan flied out to the infield, allowing Dustin Frost and Yeshua Saint to score unearned runs. Emmanuel cut the lead to 3-7. Despite their late efforts, the deficit proved to be too much for the Lions to overcome. 
 
Hudson finished the game on the mound for the Lions, successfully shutting out Barton. The final score was 3-7. 
 
With that loss, the Baseball team moves to 12-21 (4-12 CC). The Lions will continue their series against Barton College as they play a double header tomorrow in Wilson, NC, at 12:00 and 2:00 PM.
