Hogan Hits Walk-Off in 2-0 Day Over Crusaders

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA – The Emmanuel softball team hosted Belmont Abbey College on Tuesday afternoon for a conference double header. The Lions defeated the Crusader's 3-2 in game one thanks to a walk-off single by Mackensie Hogan before sweeping the series with a 7-2 victory in game two. This moves Emmanuel to an overall record of 30-17 and an 11-7 record in conference play. 
 
 
 
Game 1:
 
A walk-off single propelled the Lions to a decisive, dramatic victory over Belmont Abbey, 3-2. The game was tied at two with the Lions batting in the bottom of the eighth when Mackensie Hogan singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run.
The pitching was strong on both sides. Dani Fairey struck out three, while Abby Craver sat down four.
The Lions got things moving in the second inning. The Lions scored one run when Lexi Jordan singled.
In the top of the seventh inning, Belmont Abbey tied things up at two. Bailey Presley tripled on a 1-1 count, scoring two runs.
Fairey led things off in the circle for the Lions. The lefthander went eight innings, allowing two runs on seven hits and striking out three.
Craver toed the rubber for Belmont Abbey. Craver went seven and a third innings, allowing two runs on eight hits, striking out four and walking one.
The Lions tallied eight hits. 
Lilly Shelton and Hogan both had two hits to lead the Lions.
Belmont Abbey racked up seven hits in the game. Presley and Emily Morgan both collected multiple hits for Belmont Abbey. Belmont Abbey didn't commit a single error in the field. Payton Whitley had the most chances in the field with 14.
 
 
 
Game 2:
 
The Lions defeated Belmont Abbey 7-2 on Tuesday.
The Lions got things moving in the first inning, when Chloe Nadler singled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run.
Madison Edwards got the start for the Lions. The righty only surrendered two runs on three hits over seven innings, striking out nine.
Alannah Browne was in the pitcher's circle for Belmont Abbey. Browne went one inning, allowing five runs on six hits, striking out one and walking one. Abigail Mravlja threw five innings out of the bullpen.
The Lions saw the ball well today, racking up 13 hits in the game. Glory Thompson, Chloe Nadler, Lexi Jordan, and Ellee Varner each collected multiple hits for the Lions. Thompson went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead the Lions in hits.

Next up, Emmanuel softball will face Southern Wesleyan at home on Thursday, April 14th for a double header starting at 3:00 PM.
