Lions Cruise Past Warriors in Thursday Doubleheader

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA – The Emmanuel Softball team hosted Southern Wesleyan for a conference doubleheader on Thursday. The Lions run-ruled the Warriors in both games, advancing Emmanuel's record to 32-17 overall and 13-7 in league play.
 
Game one:
Madison Edwards didn't allow a single run as the Lions defeated Southern Wesleyan 10-0 in Thursday's first matchup. Edwards allowed just one hit.
 
The Lions were boosted by Chloe Nadler, who went 4-for-4 at the plate. Nadler singled in the first, singled in the second, singled in the third, and singled in the fourth.
 
The Lions got things started in the first inning when Mackensie Hogan drew a walk, scoring one run.
 
The game was shortened to five innings, since the Lions led by more than eight (10-0).
 
Edwards got the win for the Lions. She went all five innings, allowing zero runs on one hit, striking out four and walking zero.
 
Faith Bowen was on the rubber for Southern Wesleyan. The hurler went one and one-third innings, allowing seven runs on nine hits and striking out one. Collins threw two and two-thirds innings out of the bullpen.
 
The Lions racked up 16 hits. Chloe Nadler and Ellee Varner both had four hits to lead the way.
 
Emmanuel didn't commit a single error in the field. Gabby Buffington had four chances in the field, the most on the team.
 
Collins went 1-for-2 at the plate to lead Southern Wesleyan University in hits.
 
Game two:
Mackensie Hogan led the Lions to Thursday's second win, tallying four hits en route to a 12-3 victory over Southern Wesleyan. Hogan homered in the first, doubled in the third, singled in the fifth, and singled in the sixth.
 
Southern Wesleyan scored three runs in the sixth inning, but the Lions still managed to pull out the run-rule victory after leading by nine after six innings. Southern Wesleyan scored their only runs of the day on a home run by Lydia Clayton.
 
In the first inning, the Lions got their offense started. Hogan drove in two when she homered.
 
Emmanuel notched five runs in the bottom of the sixth. Hogan and Jewels Ayers both had RBIs in the big inning.

Kaitlyn Pickens was credited with the victory for the Lions. The pitcher surrendered three runs on two hits over six innings, striking out two.
 
Emma Collins toed the rubber for Southern Wesleyan. The bulldog went five and a third innings, allowing 12 runs on 11 hits and striking out two.
 
The Lions launched two home runs on the day. Kya Santiago went for the long ball in the fifth inning. Hogan had a homer in the first inning.
 
The Lions had 11 hits in the game. Hogan went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead the Lions in hits.
 
Clayton led Southern Wesleyan University with two hits in three at bats.
 
Next up, Emmanuel Softball will host North Georgia on Wednesday, April 20 for a doubleheader beginning at 2:00pm.
