Softball Sets Program Season Win Record with Victory Over 16th Ranked Nighthawks

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA – The Emmanuel softball team completed a historic victory on Wednesday's Senior Day matchup. 4-2 and 3-2 wins over the #16 North Georgia Nighthawks moved Emmanuel's record to 34-17 on the year, surpassing the previous Emmanuel softball record of 32 wins in a season. 
 
Game one:
The Lions defeated UNG 4-2 in Wednesday's opener. Emmanuel fired up the offense in the second inning, when senior Sadie Worth hit into a fielder's choice and scored a run.
 
Dani Fairey led things off in the pitcher's circle for the Lions. The pitcher allowed nine hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out five and walking zero.
 
Kristen Davis toed the rubber for UNG. The pitcher surrendered three runs on four hits over three innings, striking out two and walking one. Jordan Warnzynski threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen.
 
The Lions socked one home run on the day. Gabby Buffington put one out in the fourth inning.
 
Glory Thompson, Buffington, Mackensie Hogan, Ally Harris, and Kya Santiago each collected one hit to lead the Lions.
 
UNG racked up nine hits. Hannah Forehand and Jaycie Michael each had multiple hits. UNG didn't commit a single error in the field.
 
Game two:
Both teams were strong in the pitcher's circle in the second game of the afternoon, but the Lions ultimately defeated the Nighthawks 3-2 to complete the sweep. The Lions' pitchers allowed just five hits to UNG.
 
All three of Emmanuel's runs came in the fifth inning, thanks to RBIs from Kya Santiago, Kasey Westmoreland, and Glory Thompson.
 
Kaitlyn Pickens earned the win for the Lions. The righthander lasted five and two-thirds innings, allowing five hits and two runs while striking out five and walking one. Madison Edwards threw one and one-third innings in relief out of the bullpen. Edwards recorded the last four outs to earn the save for Emmanuel.
 
Delaney Heaberlin took the loss for UNG. Heaberlin went four and a third innings, allowing three runs on four hits, striking out one and walking zero.
 
Kasey Westmoreland, Lexi Jordan, Lily Shelton, Mackensie Hogan, and Kya Santiago each collected one hit to lead the Lions.
 
Haley Cummings went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead UNG in hits. UNG was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Cummings had the most chances in the field with nine.
 
Next up, Emmanuel Softball will face Lees-McRae College on the road on Friday, February 22nd at 1:00pm.
