Nadler Hits Grand Slam as Softball Splits Doubleheader with Bobcats

BANNER ELK, NC – The Emmanuel Softball Team (35-18, 14-8 CC) played a doubleheader against the Lees-McRae Bobcats (18-24, 11-11 CC) on Friday afternoon. The Lions split the series, winning 5-3 before falling 8-3.
 
Game one:
The Lions took home a 5-3 victory over Lees-McRae in the opener. 
 
The first four runs were all thanks to Chloe Nadler, who piped a grand slam in the top of the fifth. She sent Ellee Varner, Glory Thompson, and Lily Shelton across the plate in doing so.
 
Ally Harris scored the final run for the Lions, sending Ellee Varner home on a sac-fly in the top of the seventh.
 
Madison Edwards led the Lions to victory in the circle. The righty went seven innings, allowing three runs on nine hits and striking out nine.
 
Megan Powel took the loss for Lees-McRae. The hurler lasted seven innings, allowing five hits and five runs while striking out five.
 
The Lions racked up five hits. Ellee Varner and Chloe Nadler both managed two hits to lead the way.
 
Lees-McRae tallied nine hits in the game. Julie Gast and Jordyn Scott all collected multiple hits for Lees-McRae. Gast led Lees-McRae with four hits in four at bats. Lees-McRae was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Abby West had the most chances in the field with five.
 
Game two:
The Lions watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in an 8-3 loss to Lees-McRae in the second game of the afternoon. Lees-McRae took the lead on a home run in the second inning.
 
Lees-McRae opened up scoring in the second inning, when Megan Powel hit a solo homer.
 
Lees-McRae scored five runs in the third inning. The offense in the inning was led by Julie Gast, Hannah Foster, Powel, and Lauren Ritchie, all knocking in runs in the inning.
 
Kyna Cheney scored all three of Emmanuel's runs. She hit a two-run homer in the 4th before sending Ally Harris home on a fielder's choice in the 5th.
 
Jada Wilson led Lees-McRae to victory in the pitcher's circle. The bulldog lasted six and two-thirds innings, allowing two hits and three runs while striking out six.
 
Dani Fairey led things off on the rubber for the Lions. The southpaw lasted two and a third innings, allowing four hits and four runs while striking out two and walking one. Kaitlyn Pickens threw three and two-thirds innings out of the bullpen.
 
Lily Shelton and Kyna Cheney both had one hit to lead the Lions.
 
Gast led Lees-McRae with two hits in four at bats. Lees-McRae was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Abby West had the most chances in the field with seven.
 
Next up, Emmanuel Softball will conclude their 2022 regular season with a doubleheader at King on Saturday, April 23. First serve is slated for 2:00pm.
