Lions Fall to Tornado in Final Regular Season Doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BRISTOL, TN – The Emmanuel softball team (35-20, 14-10 CC) concluded their 2022 regular season with a road doubleheader against King University (37-15, 18-6 CC) on Saturday. The Tornado won both games, 5-3 and 4-1, to clinch a share of the 2022 Conference Carolinas Softball regular season title. 
 
Game one:
The Lions stayed in it until the end, but King pulled away late in a 5-3 victory in Saturday's opener. King trailed 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning when Rikkelle Miller homered on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring three runs.
 
The Lions lost despite out-hitting King University ten to seven.
 
Carly Turner led things off in the circle for King. The fireballer surrendered three runs on seven hits over five innings, striking out three and walking one.
 
Madison Edwards led things off on the rubber for the Lions. Edwards surrendered five runs on seven hits over six innings, striking out six and walking zero.
 
King mashed two home runs on the day. Lauren Lawson had a homer in the sixth inning. Miller went deep in the fifth inning.
 
The Lions scattered ten hits in the game. Kya Santiago, Kyna Cheney, and Mackensie Hogan all had multiple hits for the Lions. Emmanuel was sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. 
Chloe Nadler made the most plays with six.
 
King racked up seven hits on the day. Turner and Erin Foster each collected multiple hits for King. The Tornado were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Haylee Dye had the most chances in the field with five.
 
Game two:
The Lions fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 4-1 loss in the second game of the afternoon. King took the lead on a home run in the first inning.
 
The Lions lost despite out-hitting King five to three.
 
In the first inning, King got their offense started when Rikkelle Miller homered on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs.
 
Nikole Counts was in the circle for King. Counts went seven innings, allowing one run on five hits and striking out six.
 
Dani Fairey was in the pitcher's circle for the Lions. The lefthander went two innings, allowing three runs on two hits, striking out one and walking zero. Kaitlyn Pickens threw four innings in relief.
King hit two home runs on the day. Lauren Lawson went for the long ball in the third inning. Miller had a four bagger in the first inning.
 
Lexi Jordan, Jaryn Gibson, Gabby Buffington, Kya Santiago, and Lily Shelton each collected one hit to lead the Lions.
 
This concludes the 2022 regular season for softball. The playoff bracket will be announced on Monday, April 25.
