Flying Fleet Outpace Lions

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA – The Emmanuel Baseball Team (16-28, 8-17 CC) began their weekend series with Erskine College (26-19, 16-12 CC) on Friday. The Flying Fleet defeated the Lions, 10-2.
 
Emmanuel evened things up at one in the bottom of the fourth inning when Yeshua Saint made it home. However, Erskine pulled away for good with two runs in the fifth inning. In the fifth Gregory Sanders singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run and Armondo Becerra singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.
 
Erskine scored four runs in the seventh inning. The offensive onslaught by Erskine was led by Dalton Boyd, Dontae Wade, Sanders, and Kyle Marti, all knocking in runs in the inning.
 
The Lions scored their final run in the bottom of the 8th, when Vinny Antinori sent Will Pittman home.
 
Allan Saathoff was the winning pitcher for Erskine. The ace lasted nine innings, allowing five hits and two runs while striking out 11 and walking one.
 
Ryan Smith took the loss for Emmanuel. The righty went five innings, allowing four runs on six hits, striking out one and walking one.
 
Vinny Antinori, Dobbs Bowden, Yeshua Saint, Will Pittman, and Brody Campbell each collected one hit to lead Emmanuel.
 
Erskine had nine hits in the game. Tariq Bacon, Becerra, and Wade each had multiple hits for Erskine. The Fleet were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Boyd had the most chances in the field with ten.
 
The series will continue on Saturday, April 23rd with a doubleheader. The senior day games will kick off at 1:00pm.
