Lions Win Series Opener Against Hawks, 7-3

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA – The Emmanuel Baseball team began their three games series with Chowan on Friday night. The Lions defeated the Hawks, 7-3, moving Emmanuel's record to 14-22 (6-13 CC).
 
Emmanuel got things started in the first inning. Emmanuel scored one run when Will Pittman singled.
 
Emmanuel notched three runs in the third inning. Emmanuel put the pressure on, led by a single by Khalib Bayona and a double by Zachary Bergstrom.
 
Colby Feilds was the winning pitcher for Emmanuel. The righty allowed three hits and one run over six innings, striking out six. Hunter Parks and Simon Boggie entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.
 
Nicky Wohleking took the loss for Chowan. Wohleking went five innings, allowing six runs on nine hits and striking out five.
 
Chowan hit two home runs on the day. Tyler West put one out in the sixth inning. Dallas Trevena had a dinger in the seventh inning.
 
Cody Minnis went 2-for-5 at the plate to lead Emmanuel in hits. Emmanuel stole seven bases during the game as two players stole more than one. Yeshua Saint led the way with two.
 
Chowan racked up five hits, while Emmanuel had 10.
 
The series will continue tomorrow (Saturday, April 9) with a doubleheader set to begin at 12:00pm.
