Lions Split Road Doubleheader with Fleet

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA – The Emmanuel Softball team (27-16, 8-6 CC) played against Erskine College on Friday night. The Lions split the road series with the Flying Fleet, falling 2-4 before winning 11-3.
 
Game One:
The Lions out-hit Erskine College seven to six, but it wasn't enough in a 4-2 loss in Friday's first game.
 
The Lions got on the board in the first inning when Mackensie Hogan doubled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run.
 
Erskine College pulled away for good with two runs in the third inning. 
 
Kaley Ingle led the Erskine College to victory in the pitcher's circle. The pitcher went seven innings, allowing two runs on seven hits and striking out eight.
 
Kaitlyn Pickens took the loss for Emmanuel. Pickens surrendered four runs on six hits over five innings, striking out six.
 
The Lions tallied one home run on the day. Chloe Nadler went deep in the third inning for her third homer of the season.
 
Emmanuel collected seven hits on the day. Ellee Varner and Chloe Nadler each collected two hits to lead the way.
 
 
Game Two:
Eight runs in the fourth inning led the Lions past Erskine College 11-3 in the closer of the doubleheader. Chloe Nadler, Ally Harris, Kya Santiago, Lexi Jordan, Gabby Buffington, and Lily Shelton all moved runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.
 
Erskine College fired up the offense in the first inning. Peyton Rabon grounded out, scoring one run.
 
The Lions pulled away for good with three runs in the third inning. In the third Mackensie Hogan drew a walk, scoring one run, Harris singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run, and Santiago singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.
 
Madison Edwards got the win for the Lions. The righthander surrendered three runs on four hits over five innings, striking out eight.
 
Payton Cox took the loss for Erskine College. The hurler allowed 13 hits and 11 runs over three and two-thirds innings, striking out two.
 
The Lions scattered 13 hits in the game. Shelton, Thompson, Nadler, Harris and Santiago all had two hits to lead the Lions. Emmanuel didn't commit a single error in the field. Shelton had ten chances in the field, the most on the team.
 
Next up, Emmanuel Softball will continue their road stretch as they head to Florence, SC for a double header with Francis Marion set to begin at 12:00pm.
