Lions Fall 2-3 Before Winning 4-0 in Doubleheader with Patriots

FLORENCE, SC – The Emmanuel Softball team (28-17, 9-7 CC) continued road play as they faced Francis Marion for a Saturday doubleheader. The Lions split the series with the Patriots, falling 2-3 before winning 4-0.
 
Game One:
Both teams were strong on the rubber in Saturday's opener, but Francis Marion was just a little bit stronger at the plate in a 3-2 victory over the Lions. Kaitlyn Pickens started the game for the Lions and recorded 18 outs.
 
The Lions lost despite out-hitting Francis Marion nine to seven.
 
Casey Kurent led the Patriots to victory in the circle. The ace allowed one hit and zero runs over two innings, walking zero.
 
Pickens took the loss for Emmanuel. She went six innings, allowing three runs on seven hits and striking out two.
 
Rachel Davis started the game for FMU. The pitcher went five innings, allowing two runs on eight hits, striking out one and walking zero.
 
The Lions totaled nine hits. Ellee Varner and Ally Harris each collected two hits to lead the way. Emmanuel was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Gabby Buffington had the most chances in the field with five.
 
Game Two:
Madison Edwards threw a gem on Saturday for the Lions, allowing zero runs and besting FMU by a score of 4-0.
 
Mackensie Hogan led the Lions to victory by driving in four runs. Hogan went 2-for-2 at the plate. Hogan drove in runs on a home run in the first and a home run in the third.
 
The Lions got things moving in the first inning. Hogan drove in three when she homered.
 
Edwards was the winning pitcher for the Lions. The righty lasted seven innings, allowing two hits and zero runs while striking out five and walking one.
 
Casey Kurent took the loss for the Patriots. The pitcher went seven innings, allowing four runs on five hits and striking out three.
 
The Lions smacked two home runs on the day. Hogan went for the long ball in the first and third innings.
 
The Lions racked up five hits on the day. Hogan and Lexi Jordan each racked up two hits for the Lions.
Next up, Emmanuel Softball will host Belmont Abbey on Tuesday for a doubleheader starting at 3:00pm.
