Box Score YOUNG HARRIS, GA – The Emmanuel Women's Basketball team opened the season against the University of North Georgia today in the PBC/CC Challenge hosted by Young Harris College. The Nighthawks came into the season, preseason ranked #1 in the Peach Belt Conference, with the Emmanuel Lions picked #4 in Conference Carolinas. It was the Lions, however that got off to a hot start and kept momentum on their side, despite a rally from North Georgia in the 4
th quarter, to win the opener 77-69.
The Lions came out strong to start the first quarter, shooting 50% (6-12) from the field. Their defensive game was strong to start, holding the Nighthawks to 4-18 (22.22%) from the field. After the first, the Lions held a 17-10 lead.
The second quarter, Emmanuel kicked things up a notch, going 7-12 from the field (58.33%), where North Georgia shot 35.71%, scoring 19 points in the quarter. At the half, the Lions led 36-29.
In the 3
rd quarter, the Lions shot 60% from the field, scoring 22 points to take a 58-43 lead after three. The Nighthawks would get hot in the 4
th quarter, scoring 26 points, but it wouldn't be enough, and Emmanuel came away with a 77-69 victory.
Senior,
Sydney Wyatt led the way for the Lions with 27 points and 6 rebounds. Junior,
Maddie Futch also scored in double digits, contributing 10 points and 8 rebounds on the night.
