ANDERSON, SC – The Emmanuel Men's Basketball team opened the season tonight against Clayton State University at the Southeast Regional Challenge, hosted by Anderson University. The Lakers got off to a hot start early and didn't let up, taking the contest, 74-59. The Lions are now 1-1 in the series against Clayton State and fall to 0-1 on the 2023-24 season.
Although the Lions had a 10-9 lead early in the first, the Lakers would go on a 12-2 run to take a 21-12 lead. Emmanuel would get within five on a few occasions, but Clayton State would have an answer. The Lions were 10-32 (31.25%) from the field in the first half, 1-8 from three-point range. At the half, the Lakers led 36-27.
The Lakers opened things up in the second half with a few runs to extend the lead to double digits. Overall, the Lakers shot 51.8% from the field on their way to defeat the Lions 74-59.
Leading the Lions in scoring was redshirt sophomore, Spudd Webb with 16 points and 7 boards.
KJ Jones II contributed 12 points and 5 rebounds. Junior,
Elisee Ehuie also finished the night in double figures with 11 points and 6 rebounds.
The Lions had 32 points in the paint, 18 points off turnovers and 22 bench points.
Next up, the Lions will face Coker University in the Southeast Regional Challenge at 4:30PM.
