ANDERSON, SC – The Emmanuel Women's Basketball team faced Anderson University today as a part of the AU Classic Tournament hosted by Anderson. The Trojans got off to a hot start offensively, and even though the Lions cut into the lead in the third quarter of play, Anderson came away with the victory, 81-61. With the loss, the Lions fall to 3-2 on the season.
The Lions got off to a slow start in the first, shooting 25% from the field (5-20) and 1-3 (33%) from three. After the first, the Trojans had a 22-11 advantage.
In the second quarter, Emmanuel got into a rhythm offensively, shooting 8-16 (50%) from the field, and 2-4 (50%) from the charity stripe. At the half, Anderson led 45-29.
In the third, Emmanuel outscored the Trojans 21-19. The Lions shot 9-17 from the field (52.9%) and 2-3 from beyond the arc (66.67%). After the third, the Lions trailed 64-50.
In the final quarter of play, the Lions struggled offensively, shooting 3-17 from the field (17.65%).The Trojans took the victory, 81-61.
For the game, the Lions shot 35.7% from the field, had 40 points in the paint, 12 second chance points and 2 points off the bench.
Four Lady Lions were in double figures scoring on the night. Senior,
Tyasia Freeman led the way with 16 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal. Junior,
Abby Crawford had 15 points on the night, also contributing 3 rebounds. 5 assists, and 2 steals. Senior,
Sydney Wyatt had a double-double on the night, with 14 points, 13 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. Sophomore,
Maddie Futch contributed 12 points, 3 rebounds and 1 steal on the night.
