FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA – The Emmanuel Women's Basketball team hosted Augusta University tonight at the Shaw Athletic Center. The Lions kept it close against the undefeated Jaguars, with 11 lead changes in the game. The Lions outscored the Jags by 10 in the fourth quarter, but in the end, Augusta prevailed, 73-68. The loss drops Emmanuel's record to 3-3 on the season while the Jaguars improve to 4-0.
In the first quarter, the two teams went back and forth, with the lead changing 9 times in the quarter. The Lions shot 5-13 from the field (38.46%) and 2-5 from three but trailed the Jaguars 16-15 after the first.
The second quarter saw two lead changes early, before the Jaguars started clicking offensively. Augusta would lead by as much as 12 with 3:23 to play, before Emmanuel began to chip away at the lead. The Jaguars led by 7 at the half, 35-28. Emmanuel shot 5-15 from the field (33%) and 1-3 from beyond the arc.
The Jaguars shot 63% from the field in the 3
rd quarter, increasing their lead to 53-34 with 2:47 to play. The Lions shot 6-13 from the field (46%) but couldn't knock down a three. The Jaguars led 57-42 after the 3
rd.
The Lion's offense began clicking in the fourth quarter, with junior,
Ade'Jah James leading the comeback with 10 points. The Lions shot 64.7% from the field and outscored Augusta 26-16 in the quarter. Emmanuel brought the game within 3 at 69-66 late, but a few missed free throws were the difference maker. The Jaguars came away with the win, 72-68.
Four Lady Lions scored in double figures tonight. Senior,
Sydney Wyatt led the way with 19 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and a steal.
Tyasia Freeman contributed 13 points, 4 rebounds, an assist and a steal.
Ade'Jah James had 14 points on the night and
Abby Crawford added 11.
Next up for the Lions will be a match-up at Georgia College on Wednesday, November 29 at 6p.m.
