MILLEDGEVILLE, GA – The Emmanuel Women's Basketball team traveled to Milledgeville, GA tonight to take on Georgia College and State University. Like their first meeting which Emmanuel won 78-68, the contest was evenly matched with 6 ties and 8 lead changes early. This time, the Bobcats edged the Lions 62-57. With the loss, the Lions fall to 3-4 on the season and the Bobcats improved to 5-2 overall.
The Lions got off to a slow start offensively in the first quarter of play, shooting 4-14 from the field (28.57%) and 1-7 from beyond the arc. The Bobcats led 17-10 after the first.
In the second quarter, the Lions got into a rhythm, with freshman,
Kristina Peach going 2-3 from three. Emmanuel shot 6-14 from the field (42.86%) and 3-7 from beyond the arc. The Lions outscored the Bobcats 17-12 in the second quarter but trailed 29-27 at the half.
In the third quarter the Lions continued to shoot well behind Peach and senior,
Sydney Wyatt. Emmanuel took the lead 41-40 with 4:19 to play in the third, which was their first time leading since early in the first quarter when they led 7-6. In the third quarter, there were 3 ties and 6 lead changes. After three, the Bobcats led the Lions by three, 49-46.
In the final quarter of play, the Lions shot 4-15 from the field and were 33% from three. The Bobcats led throughout the fourth and edged the Lions, 62-57.
Four Lions were in double figures scoring on the night, with senior,
Sydney Wyatt leading the way with 16 points. Junior,
Maddie Futch earned a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds on the night. Junior,
Abby Crawford and freshman,
Kristina Peach added 11 points a piece to the score.
Next up, the Lions will travel to Converse University on Saturday for their first conference game of the season at 2PM.
