BANNER ELK, NC – The Emmanuel Women's Basketball team traveled to Banner Elk, NC today to take on Lees McRae College in Conference Carolinas action. Emmanuel got off to a quick start and never trailed, taking home the win, 80-69. With the win, the Lions now sit at 6-4 overall on the season, 3-0 in conference play.
In the first quarter, Emmanuel got off to a hot start offensively, scoring early and often. Emmanuel shot 8-16 from the field (50%) and 3-5 from beyond the arc (60%). They were led by senior,
Tyasia Freeman who scored 8 points in the first, with junior,
Abby Crawford connecting on 3-4 three pointer attempts. Emmanuel led 21-8 after the first quarter.
In the second, the Lions shot 7-15 from the field (46.6%) and were a perfect 6-6 from the foul line. Senior,
Sydney Wyatt scored 10 of her 28 points in the second, and the Lions increased their lead to 16 going into the half, leading 41-24.
In the third, Lees-McRae outscored the Lions 21-17, but a few key threes by Wyatt and Crawford kept the Lions lead in double digits. After the third, the Lions led by 10, 58-48.
The fourth quarter was evenly matched, with the Bobcats bringing the game within 7 with 5:51 to play. But the Lions would outscore Lees McRae 12-8 to finish out the game, 80-69.
Three Lions were scored in double figures on the day, with Wyatt leading the way scoring 28 points, and grabbing 8 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steals. Crawford finished the day with 17 points, going 4-5 from three, and junior,
Maddie Futch picked up a double double, with 11 points, 12 boards and three assists.
