FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA – The Emmanuel Women's Basketball team hosted North Greenville University tonight in Conference Carolinas action. The Lions got into a 9-0 hole early but took their first lead of the game with :50 to play in the third quarter and it was back and forth the rest of the way. The Lions got into a rhythm late, and won the game by 8, 57-48. With the win, Emmanuel's record improved to 5-4 overall, 2-0 in conference play. The Crusaders fell to 7-2 overall, 1-1 I conference.
In the first quarter, the Crusaders got off to a fast 9-0 start. The Lions shot 1-12 from the field and were outscored 19-8 with 6 of their points coming from the foul line.
In the second quarter, Emmanuel shot 50% from three, with senior,
Sydney Wyatt going 3-4 from beyond the arc. Although Emmanuel outscored NGU 16-13 in the quarter, the Crusaders led at the half, 32-24.
In the third, Emmanuel would get down by as much as 10, but a couple of key free throws and a three by junior,
Abby Crawford helped the Lions mount a comeback. The Lions took their first lead of the night on a three pointer by
Sydney Wyatt with :50 to play in the 3
rd. In the quarter, Emmanuel was 6-14 from the field (42.8%) and 3-5 from three (60%). After three, the Lions led by 1, 41-40.
The fourth quarter was evenly matched and featured multiple ties and lead changes. With 2:20 to play, the Lions took a 48-46 lead on a layup by Wyatt and Emmanuel would lead the rest of the way. The Lions would win this one, 57-48.
Wyatt led the Lions in scoring today with 33 points. She also picked up 8 boards and 2 assists.
Abby Crawford contributed 9 points on the night, and senior,
Tyasia Freeman picked up 8 rebounds.
