FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA - The Emmanuel Men's Volleyball team hosted the Mount Olive Trojans for a league matchup on Saturday afternoon. The Trojans defeated the Lions, 3-1. This moves Emmanuel's record to 7-14 overall and 2-7 in Conference Carolinas play.
First set:
The Trojans got out to a 6-2 lead in the first set. The Lions stayed within four until the score was 12-8, but UMO started to pull away from there. The Trojans got to set point at 24-13, but the Lions scored four more times after a pair of kills from Jayden Young. Ultimately the Lions lost the set, 25-17.
Second Set:
UMO and Emmanuel went back and forth early on in the second set, but a 5-2 run for the Trojans in the middle of the set game them a four point lead, 17-13. The teams traded points until UMO got to set point still leading by four, 24-20. Then a block for Emmanuel fueled a heater that would continue until the score was tied at 24. Young fired back-to-back kills to make it six straight points for the Lions as they won the set, 26-24.
Third Set:
With the third set tied at five, kills from Young and Carlos Guerrero were followed by an Emmanuel block, giving the Lions an 8-5 lead. The Lions continued to hold a slight advantage until they led by one, 14-13. Then the Trojans went on an 8-2 run that soon gave them a five point lead. The Lions couldn't muster a response as the Trojans went on to win the set, 25-21.
Fourth Set:
The Lions had to have the fourth to extend the match, but they quickly faced a deficit when the Trojans got out to a 10-5 lead. A three point run for the Lions in the middle of the set gave the appearance of a comeback in the works, but UMO got hot again towards the end of the set as they went on to take it, 25-20, and the match, 3-1.
Leaders:
The Lions were led by Jayden Young, who finished with 21 kills, 5 digs and a block. Carlos Guerrero followed with 9 kills, hitting .467.
Next up, men's volleyball will host King University on Thursday, March 23rd at 7:00pm.
