Softball Sweeps Doubleheader at Chowan

MURFREESBORO, NC - Emmanuel softball continued conference play on Saturday with a road doubleheader at Chowan. The Lions swept the series, winning 5-1 and 12-2. This moves their record to 14-12 overall and 3-1 in league play.
 
Game one:
Chowan got on the board in the second inning when Tessa Nicholson singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run.
 
In the top of the third inning, Emmanuel tied things up at one. Lexi Jordan drove in one when she singled.
 
Emmanuel pulled away for good with one run in the fourth inning. In the fourth Kinsley Goolsby doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.
 
Emmanuel put up three runs in the sixth inning. The offensive onslaught by the Lions was led by Alyssa Adams and Goolsby, who both drove in runs.
 
Madison Edwards led the Lions to victory in the pitcher's circle. Edwards allowed one hit and one run over seven innings, striking out ten and walking zero.
 
Haileigh Boone took the loss for Chowan. The Hawk surrendered five runs on eight hits over five and a third innings, striking out four and walking one.
 
Emmanuel smacked two home runs on the day. Adams had a homer in the sixth inning. Goolsby also went deep in the sixth inning.
 
Emmanuel collected 13 hits. Adams, Goolsby, Kyna Cheney, and Mackensie Hogan all managed multiple hits for the Lions. Goolsby and Adams had three hits to lead the way. Emmanuel didn't commit a single error in the field. Goolsby had ten chances in the field, the most on the team.
 
Game two:
Emmanuel got things moving in the first inning. Kinsley Goolsby singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.
 
Emmanuel tallied four runs in the sixth inning. The offensive firepower by Emmanuel led by Goolsby, Gabby Buffington, Jaryn Gibson, and Abigail Curry, all driving in runs in the inning.
 
Kaitlyn Pickens was credited with the victory on the mound. She went six innings, allowing two runs on two hits and striking out five.
 
Bailey Wilcox led things off on the rubber for Chowan. Wilcox allowed five hits and five runs over three innings. Alex Bishop and Haley Jensen entered the game as relief, throwing two innings and one inning respectively.
Emmanuel smacked one home run on the day. Kyna Cheney went deep in the first inning. The Lions totaled 14 hits in the game.
 
Next up, Emmanuel softball will face Belmont Abbey on Tuesday, March 21.
