FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA - The Emmanuel men's lacrosse team took on the Young Harris Mountain Lions on Wednesday afternoon. The Mountain Lions defeated the Lions in overtime, 12-11. This moves Emmanuel's record to 1-8 on the season.
First quarter:
The Lions got the game started quickly, scoring twice in the first three minutes with goals from Devon Roberts and Brooks Butalla. YHC answered quickly with a goal of their own. However, the Lions shut the Mountain Lions out for the remainder of the quarter and made it a 4-1 lead after 15 minutes when Ryland Laturell and Tanner Park scored in the last two minutes.
Second quarter:
Young Harris would score four unanswered goals in a row over the first ten minutes of the second quarter, putting the Mountain Lions up by a goal, 5-4. In the last five minutes of the half four goals were scored, with three of them belonging to the Lions. John Allen, Adam Gallop, and Devon Roberts all contributed to the onslaught. This gave Emmanuel a 7-6 lead heading into halftime.
Third quarter:
Strong defense from Emmanuel in the third quarter held YHC scoreless. Alan Quaid and Ryland Laturell both scored for the Lions, increasing the Emmanuel lead to three goals, 9-6.
Fourth quarter:
The Mountain Lions went on a 4-1 run over the first ten minutes of the final quarter. Emmanuel's lone goal came from Tanner Park over the stretch, resulting in the score being tied at 10. With 2:52 left to play, Roberts scored his third goal of the afternoon for Emmanuel, making the score 11-10. However, with only 3 seconds remaining in the game, Young Harris found the net to force overtime.
Overtime:
The overtime period would last only 48 seconds, as Young Harris won the face off and proceeded to score their second goal in less than 60 seconds of gameplay. The golden goal ended the overtime period and the match, giving Young Harris the victory, 12-11.
Devon Roberts led the Emmanuel offense with 3 goals, while Tanner Park and Ryland Laturell each had two.
Matt Pesek was goalkeeper for the Lions and recorded 19 saves.
