Bowling Set to Begin Conference Championship

GASTONIA, N.C.– 
The 2023 Conference Carolinas Great Midwest Men's and Women's Bowling Championships will take place Friday, March 24 - Sunday, March 26 at Liberty Lanes in Gastonia, North Carolina.

The event, which is a partnership between Conference Carolinas and the Great Midwest Athletic Conference, will feature a best-of-7 baker match play format with the championship matches being contested in the mega-match format. The regular-season awards ceremony on Friday, March 24 at 3 p.m. and the championship matches and championship awards ceremony on Sunday, March 27 will be live-streamed. 

The event will feature seven women's institutions and five men's teams. Belmont Abbey, Emmanuel, Kentucky Wesleyan, Lincoln Memorial, Tusculum, Ursuline and Walsh will compete in the women's event while Belmont Abbey, Emmanuel, Kentucky Wesleyan, Tusculum and Walsh will compete on the men's side.

New this year teams will compete in a qualifying round on Friday morning to determine seeding for the double-elimination bracket. The qualifying will feature three five-person team games with total pinfall determining bracket seeding. The men will qualify beginning at 8 a.m. on March 24 with the women to follow at noon. 
 
Men's bracket play will begin on Friday following the awards ceremony at approximately 3:30 p.m. with the No. 2 against No. 3 and No. 4 against No. 5 in the first round. The women's first round will follow at approximately 5:30 p.m. with No. 2 against No. 7, No. 3 against No. 6 and No. 4 versus No. 5. 

The men's second round will begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday with the No. 1 seed taking on the winner of the No. 4 and No. 5 seeds in match three. Match 4 will pit the losers of Friday's first round. The third round will begin at approximately 10 a.m. with match six where the winner of match 3 will face the No. 2/No. 3 winner and match five will showcase the winner of match four and the loser of match three. The men's consolation championship will be held at approximately 12 p.m. with the winner of match five and the loser of match six squaring off. The men's mega-match championship will be held on Sunday at 8 a.m. with an if necessary best-of-7 match to follow. 

The women's second round will begin 30 minutes after the men's bracket play on Saturday at approximately 2 p.m. It will feature match four with the top seed facing the No. 4/No. 5 winner, match five featuring the No. 3/No. 6 winner versus the No. 2/No. 7 winner and match six which will have the No. 3/No.6 loser against the No. 2/No. 7 loser. The third round will follow at approximately 4 p.m. with match 7, the No. 4/No. 5 loser against the match 5 loser, match 8, the match 6 winner against the match 4 loser, and match nine which features the two undefeated teams remaining in the bracket. Saturday will conclude with match 10 which will feature the winner of match seven and the winner of match eight. 

The women's bracket will conclude on Sunday with the final consolation match between the winner of match 10 and the loser of match 9. That match will be contested at a time to be determined. The winner will face the winner of match nine in the championship match at 12 or 2 p.m. with an if necessary match to follow if needed.
