FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA – The Emmanuel Women's Basketball team hosted the Southern Wesleyan University Warriors today in Conference Carolinas action. The Lions came out strong, scoring 21 points in the first quarter and kept the momentum going the rest of the game, winning this one 79-55. With the win, the Lions improve to 12-5 on the season, 8-1 in conference play.
In the first quarter of play, the Lions came out strong shooting 8-19 from the field and 3-7 from beyond the arc. They held the Warriors to 31% shooting and led by 9 after the first, 21-12.
In the second quarter, the Lions defense stayed strong, holding the Warriors to 25% shooting. The Lions shot 50% from the field, connecting on 4-9 threes. Freshman,
Naomi Roberts was 2-2 from three to help the Lions extend the lead to 22 at the half, 41-19.
In the third, the Lions came out focused, holding SWU to 2-12 from the field. The Lions continued to shoot well, making 8-17 from the field and 3-7 from beyond the arc. Junior,
Abby Crawford connected on 2-3 threes. After three, the Lions led 62-31.
In the fourth quarter, the Warriors offense started to click, shooting 53% from the field. But, their fourth quarter surge wasn't enough to overcome the deficit and the Lions came out on top, 79-55.
Five Lions scored in double figures today, with
Abby Crawford leading the way with 17 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block and a steal on the day. Seniors,
Tyasia Freeman and
Sydney Wyatt added 14 points apiece. Freeman also contributed 7 rebounds and 4 assists, with Wyatt adding 4 rebounds and 4 assists. Junior,
Maddie Futch had a double double on the night with 11 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal. Freshman,
Naomi Roberts scored 11 points in 13 minutes of playing time.
