FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA – The Emmanuel Women's Basketball team hosted Chowan University in Conference Carolinas play today. The game was close until the end, but the Hawks came out on top in a nail-biter, 59-56. With the loss, the Lions fall to 12-6 on the season, 8-2 in conference action.
The Lions got off to a slow start in the first quarter of play, shooting 2-16 from the field and 2-9 from beyond the arc. The Hawks finished the quarter with a 7-0 run to lead 20-12 at the end of one.
In the second, the Lions started to click offensively, shooting 5-14 from the field and 5-5 from the charity stripe. Emmanuel also tightened up on defense, holding the Hawks to 14% shooting. The Lions would get within 4 of the lead, but the Hawks would hold a 33-27 lead heading into halftime.
In the third, the Lions got hot from three making 4-8 from beyond the arc. Junior,
Abby Crawford led the way going 4-5 from three in the quarter. The Hawks led the Lions by 3 after 3, 46-43.
In the fourth quarter, the Hawks would extend their lead to seven points, but the Lions would mount another comeback, getting within one point of the lead. A layup by Chowan's Yasmine Brown with 0:14 seconds to go would put the game away and the Lions would fall 59-56.
Abby Crawford led the Lions with 17 points. 3 rebounds, and 3 assists. Senior,
Tyasia Freeman ended the night with 11 points, 9 rebounds and a block.
Next up the Lions will travel to face Erskine on Wednesday at 5PM.
