BELMONT, NC – The Emmanuel Women's Volleyball team traveled to Belmont, NC to face Belmont Abbey College in Conference Carolina action. The match was competitive, but the Lions came away with a 3-0 victory, (25-19, 25-12, 25-23). With the win, Emmanuel improves to 13-7 overall, 10-0 in conference play.
In the first set, the two teams traded points and the lead early. The Crusaders used a 3-0 run to take a 10-8 lead midway through the set, but the Lions were quick to respond. A kill by
Cailin Pritchard tied things up at 11-11 and gave the Lions the edge. The Lions would continue on a 5-0 run to take a 16-12 lead. Belmont Abbey would get within a point, 16-15, but the Lions would push the pace of the set to extend their lead to 20-15. The Lions would close out the set strong to win it, 25-19.
Emmanuel was dominant in set two, collecting 17 kills. The Lions would jump out to a 7-2 lead and continue their momentum with a 10-0 run to push their lead to 17-3. Although the Crusaders would answer back with a few runs of their own, the Lions would take the set, 25-12.
The third set was a competitive one, with multiple ties and lead changes. The Lions took an early 7-3 lead, but the Crusaders answered to tie things at 7-7. Mid way through the set, the Crusaders took a 14-13 lead, but the Lions were quick to respond with a 3-0 run, including a kill by
Ellie Jackson to retake the lead, 18-16. Belmont Abbey would take the lead late, 23-22 but the Lions would score the final three points, to win the set, 25-23 and the match 3-0.
Overall, the Lions had 41 kills, 3 aces, 14 blocks, 40 assists and 48 digs.
Alaina Emminger led the way with 12 kills for the Lions, while
Ellie Jackson contributed 10.
Emily Hanson and
Brianna Bigelow each had seven blocks on the night. Jackson,
Isabel Miller, and
Sami Gambill had a service ace, and Gambill led the team with 17 assists.
Ellie Jackson had 15 digs (another double-double!), while
Asia Queen added 14.
