Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Lions Volleyball team hosted the Shorter Hawks tonight in Conference Carolinas action. The Lions got off to a quick start taking the first set, 25-16. After a back-and-forth set, the Lions came back to win the second set, 25-23 and carried that momentum into the third set, winning it 25-18 to earn a 3-0 win. With the win, the Lions improve to 16-9 on the season, 13-1 in conference action.
The first set began with several ties and lead changes. The Lions used a 4-0 run to take an 11-8 lead and followed that up with an 8-1 run to make it, 19-11, Lions. The home team closed out the set strong to win it, 25-16. The set was highlighted by 13 kills for the Lions.
In the second set, the Hawks took an early 7-2 lead and maintained their lead until midway through the set when the Lions tied things at 18-18 on an attack error by the Hawks. The two teams battled back and forth the rest of the way, with the Lions scoring the final three points to win the set, 25-23.
The two teams continued to battle in the third set, with both teams making plays early. The Hawks jumped out to a 9-5 lead, but the Lions responded well with a 4-0 run and two kills by
Brianna Bigelow to tie it at 11. The Lions would use a 3-0 run to take a 16-14 lead, and although Shorter kept it close, a 4-0 run by the Lions would extend their lead to 21-16. The Lions would close out the set strong with another 4-0 run to take the set, 25-18 and the game, 3-0.
Overall, the Lions had 34 kills, 3 aces, 9 blocks, 32 assists and 51 digs.
Cailin Pritchard led the way with 9 kills, with
Alaina Emminger and
Ellie Jackson adding 7 a piece.
Asia Queen, Pritchard, and
Sami Gambill each collected an ace on the night.
Pritchard also led the team with 5 blocks, while
Emily Hanson and Emminger added four a piece.
Isabel Miller had 17 assists on the night, while
Sami Gambill added 12.
Asia Queen led the team with 16 digs while Jackson and Miller each had 9.
