Lions Down Chowan 3-0 on Block Out Cancer Night!

Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Women's Volleyball team hosted the Chowan University Hawks today in Conference Carolinas action. Set one was competitive with the Lions edging Chowan, 25-19. Emmanuel would carry the momentum the rest of the way taking the final two sets, 25-14, 25-11 to earn the 3-0 win. With the win, the Lions now sit at 8-6 overall, 5-0 in conference play. 
 
The first set was a competitive one with eight ties. The Hawks would take their first lead of the set at 17-16, but the Lions would respond to grab the momentum and the lead on a kill by Alaina Emminger, 19-18. The Lions would score the final five points of the set, including two kills a piece by Emminger and Ellie Jackson to take the first set, 25-19. 
 
The Lions carried the momentum into the second set. The Hawks would take an early 4-1 lead, but the Lions answered quickly to tie things at 4. A 6-0 run by the Lions would give the home team a 13-8 advantage. The Hawks would go on a 4-0 run of their own to make it 13-12, but the Lions responded to score the next seven points, including two kills by Jackson and two service aces by Emminger. Things would continue to click for the Lions offensively and they'd take set two, 25-14. 
 
The third set started out close, but the Lions would use a 8-1 run to take a 14-7 advantage. The Lions would continue to roll with two service aces by Isabel Miller to help Emmanuel extend their lead to 20-8. The Lions would close out the set outscoring the Hawks 5-2 to take the set, 25-11 and the match, 3-0. 
 
Overall, the Lions had 45 kills, 6 aces, 5 blocks, 42 assists, and 46 digs. 
 
Ellie Jackson led the way with a double-double of 15 kills/15 digs, while Alaina Emminger had 12 kills and 3 aces on the night. Brianna Bigelow led the block party with 5, while Sami Gambill had a strong night with 25 assists.
