Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Women's Volleyball team hosted the Barton Bulldogs today in Conference Carolinas action. The Lions got off to a fast start, taking set one 25-11. The home team continued their momentum into the second set, winning 25-16, and closed out the game with a 25-21 set three win. With the win, the Lions improve to 9-6 overall, 6-0 in conference play.
In set one, the Lions took an early 8-3 lead. Emmanuel would extend their lead by using kills by
Alaina Emminger,
Emily Hanson, and
Ellie Jackson to outscore the Bulldogs 7-2, boosting their lead to 15-6 midway through the set. The Lions closed out the set by going on a 10-5 run to win, 25-11.
In the second set, the two teams traded the lead early. A kill by
Brianna Bigelow to make it 8-7 Lions, would help the Lions take control of the set. The Lions would lead by as much as 7, but the Bulldogs would respond to keep things close. A kill by Bigelow would help the Lions close out the set to win, 25-16.
In the third set, the Lions jumped out to a 5-1 lead. The Bulldogs responded to take a 12-11 lead midway through the set. The Lions answered back on a kill by
Jocelyn Martin to regain control of the set. The Lions would extend their lead to as much as five points, 21-16. Barton went on a late run in the set, but the Lions held them off to win set three, 25-21 and the game, 3-0.
Overall, the Lions had 50 kills, 42 assists, 4 aces, 40 digs and 4 blocks.
Ellie Jackson led the way with another double-double, 11 kills and 13 digs.
Isabel Miller and
Sami Gambill each had 15 assists on the afternoon, while four Lions collected an ace at the service line.
Cailin Pritchard, Jackson, and
Brianna Bigelow each grabbed one block a piece.
