Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Men's Basketball team hosted Lenoir Rhyne tonight in non-conference action. The Bears jumped out to an early lead, taking a 41-27 lead into the half but the Lions would roar back behind a 28-point night by
Jasper Gibson to make it interesting. The Bears would come away with a 94-88 win to drop the Lions to 0-3 on the early season.
In the first half of play, the two teams traded points and the lead. After the Lions tied things at 14-14 on a three-pointer by
Devin Story, the Bears would go on a 8-0 run to take a 22-14 lead. The Bears would finish the half on another scoring run to take a 41-27 lead into the break. In the first half, the Lions were 26.9% from the field and 9-12 from the free throw line.
After the break, the Lions offense got clicking, going 18-36 from the field and 9-19 from beyond the arc. The Lions outscored the Bears in the second half, 61-53, with
Jasper Gibson scoring 25 of his 28 points in the second half. With 8 minutes to play, a layup by
Devin Story would get the Lions within two points of the lead, 62-60 but the Bears would respond with a 5-0 scoring run to take a 67-60 lead. Later in the half, with 3:32 to play another three by Gibson would get the Lions within a point of the lead, 76-75 but the Bears finished out the half strong to take the win, 94-88.
Four Lions ended the night in double figures scoring, with Gibson leading the way with 28 points and 3 steals.
Tavarus Webb contributed 25 points on the night, with
Kendall Latney adding 13 points and
Devin Story with 11. Latney led the team in rebounds with 8, with Webb adding 6.
Chris Dees had 3 assists on the night.
