Lions Fall to Lee 70-52

Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Women's Basketball team hosted Lee University today in their home opener of the season.  After a competitive first quarter, a strong second quarter by the Flames helped Lee carry the momentum the rest of the way to earn a 70-52 win. With the loss, the Lions fall to 1-3 on the early season. 

Lee got off to a quick start in the first quarter, jumping out to an 11-point lead early, 13-2. The Lions would roar back behind two key three-pointers by Lizzie Teasley and Naomi Roberts to end the quarter trailing by just four, 14-10. In the first quarter, the Lions were 4-12 from the field (33%) and 2-4 from beyond the arc (50%). 

The Lions continued their momentum early in the second quarter, with another three by Teasley to get the Lions within a point of the lead, 14-13. The Flames would score the next 11 points to push their lead to 25-13. The Lions were 5-11 from the field in the second quarter and Teasley made two key three-pointers to help the Lions keep within striking distance. At the half, the Flames led by 13, 36-23. 

After the break, the Flames continued to carry the momentum, getting up by as much as 21 points. The Lions shot 4-16 in the quarter (25%) and were 2-3 from the free throw line. Heading into the final quarter, the Lions trailed 52-34. 

In the fourth quarter, the Lions continued to mount a comeback, holding the Flames to 18 points in the quarter. The Lions were 33% from the field and 8-10 from the foul line, but in the end, Lee came away with a 70-52 victory. 

Naomi Roberts led the way for the Lions with 13 points, while Lizzie Teasley had a strong day at the three-point line, connecting on 4-6 for12 points. Maddie Futch led the team in rebounds with 8. 

The Lions will be back in action on Saturday at the Shaw for their first conference match up versus Chowan at 2PM.
