Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Men's Basketball team hosted Chowan this afternoon in their first conference matchup of the season. The first half was evenly matched, with 9 ties and 10 lead changes. After taking a 38-36 lead into the half, the Lions came out in the 2nd and shot 64% from the field to earn a 92-77 win over the Hawks. With the win, the Lions improve to 2-4 on the season, 1-0 in conference play.
The first half was as advertised, with both teams making key plays. The Hawks would lead by as much as five points, 20-15 with 10:23 to play in the first but the Lions would answer with a made free throw and layup by
Elisee Ehuie to give the Lions a 22-20 lead. The teams would continue to trade points and the lead until a 5-0 run by freshman,
Devin Story would give the Lions a 32-28 lead. The Lions shot 17-35 from the field in the first half (49%) and made 3-6 from the charity stripe. At the half, the Lions held onto a two-point lead, 38-36.
After the break, the Hawks quickly tied things up at 38 on a pair of made free throws. The Lions would respond well to score the next four points on layups by
Tavarus Webb and
Jasper Gibson. Emmanuel would push their lead to 48-41 on a made free throw by
Kendall Latney. The Hawks would bring the game back within four points, 48-44, but the Lions would respond with a 10-0 run to make it 58-44 with 13:31 to play. The Lions shot 64% from the field (18-28) in the second half, connecting on 4-6 from beyond the arc. The Lions would go onto win by 15, 92-77.
Four Lions were in double figures on the night, with
Tavarus Webb leading the way with 30 points. Webb was 12-17 from the field, scoring 18 points in the 2nd half and grabbing 6 rebounds.
Kendall Latney finished the night 8-14 from the field for 23 points, while
Devin Story had a double double, with 18 points and 9 rebounds.
Elisee Ehuie rounded out the top scorers with 14 points on the night and 8 boards.
