DAHLONEGA, GA – The Emmanuel Women's Basketball team traveled to Dahlonega to take on the University of North Georgia in the Conference Challenge Classic. The Hawks took control of the game early and held off a late surge by the Lions to earn the win, 79-62. With the win, the Lions fall to 0-1 on the season.
In the first quarter, the Hawks took an early 9-4 lead, going 3-3 from three in the first four minutes of play. The Hawks held the Lions to 26.3% shooting from the field in the first quarter and held a 23-11 lead after 10 minutes of play.
In the second quarter, the Lions responded well, shooting 54.55% from the field and 3-5 from the free throw line. The Lions would get within 9 points of the lead, on a jumper by
Maddie Futch but the Hawks would close out the quarter strong to lead the Lions 45-26 at the break.
In the third quarter, the Lions offense came out strong, going 6-12 from the field and 3-7 from three. Although the shots were falling for the Lions in the third, the Hawks outscored Emmanuel 21-19 and led 66-45 after three.
In the final quarter of play, the Lions shot 54.5% from the field and 4-5 from the free throw line. The Lions outscored the Hawks 17-13 in the quarter, but the Hawks were able to come away with a 79-62 win.
Maddie Futch led the Lions with 14 points, with
Ade'Jah James adding 10. Futch, James, and
Lizzie Teasley each had four rebounds on the night.
