Dahlonega, GA – The Emmanuel Women's Basketball team took on Georgia College this afternoon in regional action. It was an evenly matched game with both teams making key plays, but a strong third quarter for the Bobcats helped Georgia College earn a 64-54 win. With the loss, the Lions fall to 0-2 on the season.
In the first quarter, the Bobcats got out to an early 5-2 lead, but a three-pointer by
Abby Crawford would tie things at 5. The teams would trade points and the lead early in the 1
st. The Bobcats would go up by as much as four points during the quarter, but the Lions roared back to tie things at 17-17 to end the quarter. Emmanuel was 6-16 from the field in the 1
st, and 3-4 from the free throw line.
In the 2
nd quarter, the Bobcats took an early lead, but two made free throws by
Lizzie Teasley would put the Lions on top, 21-20. The Lions would lead by as much as 5 points late in the quarter, on a three-pointer by
Naomi Roberts and would lead the Bobcats 35-32 heading into the break.
The Bobcats offense started clicking in the third quarter, connecting on 35% of their shots from the field and 7-8 at the charity stripe. The Lions shot 25% from the field (3-12). A 14-0 run by the Bobcats would end the quarter with Georgia College leading the Lions by 14, 55-41.
In the fourth quarter, 8 points by
Ade'Jah James would cut the Bobcats lead to 8. The Lions were 3-16 from the field (18.75%) and 100% from the free throw line. The Bobcats would take the game, 64-54.
James and
Abby Crawford would lead the Lions would 16 points apiece, with Crawford going 3-8 from three. James led the team with 11 rebounds and
Addie Penick had 2 assists on the night.
