Lions Fall to Coker in OT 117-113

Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Men's Basketball team hosted Coker University today as a part of the 2024 Conference Crossover. The game was as advertised, competitive from the start, but the Cobras came away with a 117-113 win in OT. With the loss, the Lions fall to 0-2 on the season. 

In the first half, the Cobras jumped out to an early 12-5 lead. The Lions would tie things with 12:55 to play in the half on a three pointer by Micah Roebuck. The Lions took their first lead of the afternoon on a made free throw by Tavarus Webb, who led the team with 24 points. Emmanuel shot 55.56% from the field (15-27) and were 8-14 from beyond the arc. The Cobras led the Lions by as much as 8 points in the half, leading 48-40 with 2:15 to play. Coker led by five, 53-48 at the break.

After the half, the Lions quickly responded as a three pointer from Tavarus Webb and two made free throws by Elisee Ehuie tied things at 53. There were several ties and lead changes the rest of the way as the two teams battled. With 10:36 to play, a layup by Kendall Latney would give the Lions an 83-74 lead, but the Cobras responded well. The Lions led for the final 11 minutes of the game, but the Cobras kept things close. With eight seconds to play, Coker tied things at 100 to force overtime. In the second half, the Lions shot 59.26% from the field (16-27), making 19-26 at the charity stripe. 

In overtime, the two teams went back and forth. The Lions were 6-11 from the field (54%) and 1-3 from beyond the arc. After the Lions held the lead for the first two minutes of OT, the Cobras tied things at 108 and closed the game out strong to win it, 117-113. 

Tavarus Webb led the Lions with 24 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists, 3 steals and a block. Elisee Ehuie contributed 23 points, three boards, and was a perfect 10-10 from the charity stripe, while Kendall Latney added 20 points, four rebounds, three assists, and a steal. 

Next up, the Lions will host Lenoir Rhyne on Wednesday at 7PM in the Shaw Athletic Center.
