Lions Down Mount Olive 100-88!

Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Men's Basketball team hosted the University of Mount Olive Trojans this afternoon in a conference matchup. The contest saw four ties and two lead changes early, but the Lions took control behind a 34-point night from Kendall Latney to earn a 100-88 victory. With the win, the Lions move to 7-5 on the season, 6-0 in conference play.

The Lions jumped out to a quick 11-3 lead on the Trojans, but Mount Olive would tie things up at 17 and take their first lead of the night at 20-17 with 10:20 to play in the first. The Lions would respond well, retaking the lead, 35-33 with 4:55 to play in the half on a layup by Kendall Latney. A made free throw by Tavarus Webb would push the Lions lead to nine to end the half with Emmanuel on top, 48-39. The Lions were 46% from the field in the first half (17-37), connecting on 3-7 three-point attempts. 

After the break, an 11-0 run including back-to-back threes by Chris Dees and Jasper Gibson would give the Lions a 56-43 lead with 17:39 to play. With 13:55 to go, the Trojans would bring the game within five points at 63-58 but the Lions answered quickly to bring their lead back to double digits. A made jumper by Latney would bring the Lions lead to 14 with 9:32 to play,76-62 and although the Trojans would get within 8 of the lead with 36 seconds to play, the Lions would go 4-5 from the foul line to close out the game with a 12 point win, 100-88. 

Three Lions ended the night in double-figures. Kendall Latney had a career high 34 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists 2 blocks and a steal on the afternoon.  Tavarus Webb contributed 25 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals, while Elisee Ehuie added 17 points, 9 rebounds and a block on the day.
