Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Women's Basketball team hosted the Mountain Lions of Young Harris tonight in conference action. Young Harris came out of the gate strong in the first half of play, leading 43-26 at the half. The Lions roared back after the break, but the Mountain Lions prevailed to take home a 67-54 victory. With the loss, the Lions fall to 2-5 on the season, 1-2 in conference play.
In the first quarter, Young Harris jumped out to a 9-3 lead. The Lions would respond to get within a point of the lead, 11-10 but the Mountain Lions would close out the quarter strong to lead 19-15. In the quarter, the Lions were 4-16 from the field (25%) and 3-8 from beyond the arc. They were a perfect 4-4 from the foul line.
Young Harris carried the momentum into the second quarter, holding the Lions to 23% shooting (3-13). The Mountain Lions pushed their lead up to 17 points, leading 43-26 at the break.
After half, the Mountain Lions continued to play strong, extending their lead to as much as 24 points with 3:40 to play in the quarter. The Lions would answer back well with a 7-0 run including a key three-pointer by
Maddie Futch. In the quarter, the Lions shot 26% (4-15) and outscored the Mountain Lions 11-10. Young Harris took a 54-38 lead into the fourth quarter.
In the final quarter of play, the Lions continued their comeback, connecting on 6-17 shots from the field (35%) and 2-6 from beyond the arc. With 1:45 to play, a jumper by
Ade'Jah James would cut the Mountain Lion lead to 9, but Young Harris would close the contest out strong to take home a 67-54 victory.
Ade'Jah James led the team with a double-double of 15 points and 13 rebounds.
Abby Crawford contributed 12 points, going 6-8 at the free throw line.
